Our Park:
Manito Park has turned out to become a very popular area for our
favorite 4 legged family members. It is a 3 acre park, walking trails, and
playground where all well behaved dogs can go, run, romp, play with other
dogs and owners. Of course we still have the rule to pick up after your pet and
if not behaving, place on leash and take charge. Many dogs and owners find this
a fun way to exercise, release energy, meet your neighbors, play catch,
and enjoy outside.
Please bring your own water since there is not a fountain or
water for
your pet.

When I update the directory each year, I ask about
pets in the family. Some may think this is strange, but I have a data base of
your pets, as well as the other family members. When someone calls with a lost
or found pet, I can look and many times reunite using the data base. PLEASE
INCLUDE THIS ON THE INFORMATION FORM WHEN UPDATING.

HOME
The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.
Dear Dogs and Cats: The dishes with the paw prints are yours
and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my
food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not
stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find
that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack.
Racing me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me doesn't help
because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very
sorry about this. Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch
to ensure your comfort, however. Dogs and cats can actually curl up in
a ball when they sleep. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular
to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also
know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out
on the other end to maximize space is nothing but sarcasm.
For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom! If, by
some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it
is not necessary to claw, whine, meow, try to turn the knob or get
your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door. I must exit
through the same door I entered. Also, I have been using the bathroom
for years -
canine/feline attendance is not required.
The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the
other dog or cat's butt. I cannot stress this enough.
Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message
on the front door:
TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND LIKE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:
(1) They live here. You don't. (2) If you don't want their hair on your
clothes, stay off the furniture. That's why they call it 'fur'-niture. (3)
I like my pets a lot better than I like most people. (4) To you, they are
animals. To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy,
walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.
Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they (1) eat less, (2)
don't ask for money all the time, (3) are easier to train, (4) normally come
when called, (5) never ask to drive the car, (6) don't hang out with
drug-using people; (7) don't smoke or drink, (8) don't want to wear your
clothes, (9) don't have to buy the latest fashions, (10) don't need a
gazillion dollars for college and (11) if they get pregnant, you can sell
their children
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is
likely to be painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as
punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainments, but I
have only you.
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand
your voice when speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.
7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could
hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if
something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not
getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart
might be getting old or weak.
9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say
you can't bear to watch. Don't make me face this alone. Everything is
easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.
Take a moment today to thank God for your pets. Enjoy and take good
care of them. Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience
without God's critters.
We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love,
and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs.

What to do to "DE_SKUNK" your pet
The Katy Freeway emergency animal clinic offers
some really great information. If your dog is sprayed, their eyes can be
harmed, so you should rinse their eyes with some type of saline solution. I
found one at CVS (thank goodness they are open 24 hours a day) which looked
like a spray and was much easier to use than the drops. The "De-Skunking
Solution" to remove the smell consisted of 1 quart of Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/4
cup Baking Soda, and 1 tsp. dish washing liquid (any kind). The vet did
say it may need to be done a few times before it is completely
effective.

MAKE PLANS NOW!
BE SURE YOU ARE PREPARED FOR
DISASTERS AND YOU HAVE A PLAN
FOR YOUR PET IN THE EVENT OF A HURRICANE, TORNADO, FIRE OR FLOOD.
IT IS ALSO WISE TO HAVE MADE PLANS ABOUT YOUR PET IN YOUR WILL--
WHO SHOULD TAKE OVER THE PET'S CARE IN CASE OF YOUR DEATH!!!.
REMEMBER, THEY ARE FAMILY, TOO.

Help in Finding Your Lost Pet:
Becoming
separated from your family cat or dog can be a difficult and traumatic
experience. Here are some tips to help you reunite you and your furry family!
1. ALWAYS have identification tags on your pet with phone numbers including your
cell phone number.
Also, consider a microchip. A very
easy, quick, inexpensive, and painless way to identify your pet. When lost, your
pet is scanned by any vet for identification. All the information to contact you
is on the chip including several backup numbers to call. There is a national
database for the microchip so no matter where your pet is lost, they will be
returned.
2. Contact your local animal shelter and file a lost per report.
3. Canvass your neighborhood. Provide a recent photo of your lost pet.
4. Contact local veterinarians so they can be on the lookout and scan any pets
similar to yours.
5. Post signs at traffic intersections, local stores, and community centers and
run ads in your newspaper. DO NOT POST SIGNS ON MAIL BOXES--THIS IS AGAINST THE
LAW!
6. Place a picture, description, and information on our website and our e-mail
list.
7. Persevere---It is not unusual for pets to be reunited several months after
the animal first disappeared.

Budro's New Big brother,July

Our newest Beautiful Resident--Budro

So cute, so sweet, adorable personality!

Missy
-
A Chihuahua and a Lab--Who could have guessed?

She's cute, she's smart, she's sweet, and her name
was suppose to be Sugar.
However, the yellow lab in our neighborhood
is a better fit with the name, TAZ.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Todi sits for hours watching any activity on our street. She sits on her
bean bag chair, in her "parked" position waiting for "her friends to come
to the park." It is very entertaining to watch her. After such a long period, she
will lay her head on the sill and continue to watch.
My beautiful therapy dog. She has been a member of the Delta Society Pet Partners
where she
visited in hospitals, nursing homes, retirement centers, elementary school,
homeless shelter, and makes special appearances at Girl Scout meetings, church
functions, Halloween carnivals, summer camps, or anywhere she is invited. She is
adorable, has a great disposition, and has a variety of tricks she loves doing.
She is pure love and joy to us and all she meets!!!
changes with the seasons---
Driving would be so much
fun if I just had a thumb!
At last-I've got the car all to myself.
PROBLEM IN OUR "HOOD"
CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR PET!
We are hearing less complaints in our neighborhood regarding
pet "clean-up". THANK YOU!
We ask our residents to clean up
after their pet while on walks or letting them out for a "potty"
break. It is unfair and inconsiderate
to leave this for others to clean up or others to "get
into." We have a "doggie-port" in our park to help with this problem.
Also needed and helpful if each of you would carry your own
baggies and take care of this matter and help keep Kelliwood Terrace clean.
Cleaning up also keeps our environment cleaner and safer.
Some
Solutions to this problem:
We all love our pets and want
others to love them as well SO LET'S WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN-------
The # 1 solution is for each owner to take responsibility on their own!!! Our
animals are fairly predictable and usually have predictable habits. If you know
taking them on a walk is "their " time, YOU SHOULD GO PREPARED AND BE
PREPARED--JUST IN CASE. THIS IS THE ONLY FAIR SOLUTION TO YOUR NEIGHBORS!!!!
2.. Bags on Board”….The little red fire hydrant containing a roll of
about 20 little blue plastic baggies. The container hangs from your leash handle
so it’s so easy and convenient. No more “I forgot to bring the bag ”. These
products are available at Petsmart and Petco and are not expensive.
3. When a pet and owner are in your yard or within your vision, IF you feel
comfortable in doing this, you could politely ask the owner if they need a
baggie.
Maybe pet
owners will start to remember.
4. Our HOA HAS A"doggie port" containing baggies placed in our PARK
along with trash can. It is your responsibility to clean up after your dog in
our park. Please do this for your community.
"Millie
Bush Bark Park"
A fun "Millie Bush Bark Park" is now open for all our furry family
members.
The site for the dog park is located on Westheimer Pwy. going East into Houston.
Go pass Barker Cypress, and it is on the south side of
Westheimer Parkway, "kitty corner" from the shooting range.
There are 2 sections of this fifteen acres which are totally
surrounded by a 6ft. high black vinyl coated chain link fence. Each
section has a double gated entrance and exit area that allows you
space to remove or attach the leash before proceeding inside or outside the
Park. The larger area is for large dogs to play off leash, run, jump in a
pond, drink out of "doggie fountain" and have a shower when time to leave. There
is a separate area with the same things offered for smaller dogs, 20
lbs. or less. Don't forget to bring your own towel for after the shower.
There are some good rules to follow while at the park for the safety of
our furry and human family members. Below are all the rules of the "Bark Park".
There are excellent reasons these are in place and reasonable owners will abide
by these rules and understand their need.
1.Open 7am-Dusk
2. All dogs must be leashed when entering and leaving the Bark Park
3. All dogs must have current rabies and all vaccination and be healthy
and free of contagious
diseases and parasites
4. Dogs must wear current license tags in the Bark Park
5. Dog owners must carry a copy of dog's rabies vaccination certificate while in
the
Bark Park
6. Never leave dogs unattended
7. Dogs must be in view of and within voice control of their owner at all times
9. Owners are responsible for picking up and disposing of all of their
dog's waste
(Baggies are provided)
10. Dogs in Heat are prohibited.
11. Dogs showing signs of aggression must be leashed and immediately removed
from the
Bark Park
12. Dogs under 4 months of age are prohibited.
13. All dogs must be under the control of an adult and there is a limit of 2
dogs per adult in
the
Bark Park at any time.
14. No food or drink (Dog or human) allowed in the Bark Park.
(water
fountain for both is provided)
15. No bicycles, skateboards, rollerblades or any motorized vehicles.
Use of this Bark Park is at your won risk!
Dog owners are responsible for the action and behavior of their dogs at all
times.
Why have a dog park?
D ogs
benefit by getting to exercise and socialize off-leash with other dogs in a safe
environment. People benefit by having a place to socialize with other dog
owners. Elderly or disabled owners have a place to take their dogs for exercise.
The community benefits by promoting responsible pet ownership and public health
and safety. Hundreds of dog parks across the United States have been started
since 1991 and have been very successful.
